My wife and I always throw Thanksgiving parties at our place out here in Oakland. I have a lot of kids, who have kids, who like to eat. One of my daughters, Sarah, told me she and her family couldn’t afford to fly in for Thanksgiving. That almost broke my heart, and I told her not to worry about it. It always seems like whenever I really need money, I don’t have it. Maybe that’s just the humor of life, but whatever. When you lose your job there’s a lot to worry about.  Dying from cancer shouldn’t be part of that, but it’s really my story.

My mother passed away at age 54 from colon cancer.
